For an approach-shot problem from 100 to 150 yards, one way golfers could investigate this pattern is to 15 to 20 balls with the relevant wedge or short iron during a range session and observe the recurring result. Three common explanations are worth separating:
– Direction: A consistent left, right or short-sided miss may point to directional dispersion or target selection. On the course, a strategy such as aiming towards the centre of the green rather than directly at pins may reduce the cost of that pattern.
– Distance control: A repeated short or long result may involve carry distance, club selection or an inconsistent swing effort. A common strategic response is to take more club and making a normal swing when the usual miss is short.
– Strike quality and consistency: Thin, heavy or otherwise inconsistent contact can make distance and direction unreliable. Slowing down and prioritising centred contact may be a practical on-course response while the underlying issue is explored in focused practice or with a lesson.
